Digitalization of "Archivio per l'Alto Adige"

The “Archivio per l’Alto Adige” magazine was founded in 1906 by Ettore Tolomei (up to 1919, the complete title was “Archivio di Studi per l’Alto Adige con Ampezzo e Livinallongo” ). Among the first contributors were distinguished names, such as Pasquale Villari, Carlo Battisti, Graziadio Isaia Ascoli and Angelo de Gubernatis. Currently, the magazine is published in Florence - Istituto di Studi per l’Alto Adige – with the following title: “Archivio di studi per l’Alto Adige. Rivista di Studi Alpini”.

With his writings, Tolomei wanted to state the region’s Italian character (also of Trentino, culturally Tyrolean but Italian speaking) and, therefore, the need to set the national border at the Brenner pass. The magazine aroused violent conflicts and was promptly distrained; in the magazine the region was called with the napoleonic department’s name including Bolzano at the beginning of 1800. The magazine contributed greatly to the development of scientifical and political debate concerning the “questione altoatesina” during the twentieth century; nowadays it documents the current alpine situation by interacting with the local reality.

The magazine is available in digital form from 1906 to 1919.
